Grandview Wins APWA Best Public Works Project-KC

Post Date:02/16/2017 11:16 AM

THE CITY OF GRANDVIEW HAS ITS EYES ON ANOTHER NATIONAL PRIZE THANKS TO ITS INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE.

AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION (APWA)-KC METRO CHAPTER NAMED THE MO HWY-150 OUTER ROADS IMPROVEMENTS “BEST 2017 PUBLIC WORKS TRANSPORTATION PROJECT” WITH A BUDGET OF LESS THAN $5 MILLION. THE PROJECT WILL NOW COMPETE AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL.

BURNS & MCDONNEL AND KISSICK CONSTRUCTION TEAMED UP FOR THE $2.6 MILLION DESIGN-BUILD PROJECT. IT WAS THE FIRST DESIGN-BUILD FOR MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (MoDOT) FOR A LOCAL PUBLIC AGENCY. MoDOT PAID FOR ROUGHLY HALF OF THE PROJECT.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR CORY SMITH SAYS THIS AWARD IS SPECIAL. “IT’S JUST ANOTHER GREAT EXAMPLE OF THE INNOVATIVE WAY GRANDVIEW PUBLIC WORKS IS BUILDING PLACES AND INFRASTRUCTURE WHILE GETTING TAXPAYERS THE MOST FOR THEIR MONEY.”

THE IMPROVEMENTS EXTENDED AND REALIGNED OUTER ROADS RUNNING ALONG I-49, AND ADDED A LIGHTED PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL AND A BICYCLE REPAIR STATION TO THE PARK AND TRAIL SYSTEM ALONG HWY-150. THE IMPROVEMENTS PROVIDE A WALKABLE AND BICYCLE-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT WITH EXCELLENT ACCESS TO FUTURE BUSINESSES.
