Making Sense With Your Cents
Cemal Umut Gungor jokingly refers to himself as "a bean counter," but everyone who works with him knows the Grandview Finance Director is so much more. Now the rest of the KC Metro will know too.
The Kansas City Business Journal named Gungor one of its 2017 CFOs of the Year. “I consider this one of my greatest professional accomplishments. “ Gungor beamed, “This recognition also sheds light on the beautiful City of Grandview and the truly great projects we are accomplishing for the community, but also for the entire KC Metro.”
Gungor knows every financial move in a small city has the potential to have a great impact. Since first taking over as Finance Director in 2014, Gungor has made every decision based on his philosophy of responsible financial management. The proof is in the City’s AA- credit rating. In its 2017 summary, Standard & Poor's, the foremost source of independent credit ratings, praised Grandview management as "strong, with good financial policies and practices.”
Also this year, Government Finance Officers Association named Grandview as one of its top revenue forecasters, even asking Gungor to contribute to the book “Informed Decision-Making through Forecasting: A Practitioner’s Guide to Government Revenue Analysis.”
In addition to his accomplishments on the job, Gungor is President of the Board for Samuel U. Rodgers Health Foundation and serves on the UMKC Advisory Board to the Women’s Center.
Gungor, along with the City of Kansas City, Missouri Finance Director Randall Landes, are the first city government financial executives to be named CFOs of the Year by The Kansas City Business Journal since 2010.
Kansas City Business Journal will honor the winners at a luncheon held on June 30 at InterContinental Hotel.
