Extreme Cold and Pets
Baby, it’s cold outside. Too cold for people and too cold for pets. In the City of Grandview, you will be cited if your animal is found outside in extreme cold for longer than 15 minutes. Extreme cold is defined as temperatures under 30 degrees.
We know it’s always necessary for dogs to go outside a few times a day. Even if they are out for five minutes, please make sure your dog has some kind of shelter, straw/blanket, food and water.
If you know of an animal that’s been outside in extreme cold for an extended period of time, you can call Neighborhood Services Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM at (816) 316-4817. We will dispatch an officer to check on the reporter. Before and after hours, on weekends, and on holidays, please call (816) 316-4980. Dispatchers will contact the Neighborhood Services Officer on-call.
