The Truman Heritage Festival is back for its second year and is looking bigger and better than ever. It will take place May 2, 3 & 4 in downtown Main Street, Grandview, Missouri.

THF Logo This FREE-admission community festival will start on Thursday evening and will last through Saturday, with most activities taking place on the last day, May 4. It will feature a parade, one of the nicest carnivals in the state, food and drink vendors, arts & crafts, children activities, music concerts, arts and musical performances by local schools, car show, barbecue championship, beer gardens, and much more. The festival attracted thousands of people last year, and this year promises to bring even more people to Main Street downtown, between 15th and 5th Street.

"Truman Heritage Festival was a huge success last year! We had over 12,000 people attend! With even more things planned this year, every member of the family is sure to have a terrific time," said Mayor Steve Dennis.

The Saturday program of entertainment will begin with a grand parade complete with big cash prizes for the best floats and performances. The parade’s theme in 2013 is “The Sky’s The Limit!” It starts at 10a.m. and everyone is encouraged to register to participate in the parade, whether featuring a float or not. Click here to register your group in the parade.

The barbeque Championship is a KCBS sanctioned event. The competition will take place May 3 & 4. Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) rules and regulations will be applied for the contest. All four categories – pork ribs, chicken, pork shoulder or butt, and beef brisket – count toward the overall Grand Champion. Cash prizes in the amount of $4,750 will be divided among the first through 5th place finishers in the four categories in addition to a Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. The rules and regulations, together with registration forms, are posted here.

“This year's event has grown! We’ll have more attractions, more entertainment, and we’re bringing a country music superstar, Josh Gracin, who has been on American Idol!” Grandview Parks & Recreation Director Eric Lucas said.
