POSITION SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to serve as the day-to-day camp manager of the City’s Parks and Recreation camp program, located at The View Community Center. Head Camp Counselors play a key role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for children while leading activities, ensuring their well-being, and promoting positive social interactions.
Available shifts include Monday through Friday: Camp hours are 7:00am – 5:30pm.
First Aid/CPR will be required prior to first day of camp
Job Responsibilities (Include, but not limited to)
- Attend initial training and in-service training as needed
- Assist with opening and closing duties
- Assist Camp Counselors in leading camp activities, arts and crafts, games, and supervising children 5-12 years old in camp, both indoors and outdoors
- Able to abide by and implement the check-in and check-out process of campers, manage counselors, create a weekly activity calendar, able to communicate with parents, children, and Recreation coordinator, assist in creating counselor schedules, and more
- Responsible for supervising children while swimming in both indoor and outdoor pools, covering counselor break times, and supervising/leading during field trips
- Implement rules and regulations for campers and counselors, and work under the supervision of the Recreation coordinator
- Responsible for overseeing camp programs and activities
- Responsible for emergency decisions, calling 911, and decisions concerning inclement weather that warrant emergency shelter
- Responsible for administering camp discipline policy
- Meets with staff on a weekly basis to coordinate lesson plans for the following week
- Responsible for inventory, maintenance, and supervision of all camp equipment and supplies
- Responsible for directing daily cleanup of camp
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
- Must be able to work in changing indoor and outdoor climates
- Must be able to sustain a positive attitude and partner with other counselors to provide a positive experience for children and provide feedback for parents
- Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion, and significant awareness of confidentiality
- Must be able to work independently and reliably complete tasks in a timely manner
- Willingness to obtain and comply with suspected child abuse reporting
- First Aid/CPR will be required prior to first day of camp
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must successfully pass background and reference checks
Pay
$17.00 per hour
