The revitalization of Grandview’s Main Street has earned our charming destination another award.
The Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Association has designated Grandview Main Street as a "Great Street" in Missouri. Noted for being a hub of community life, commerce, and connectivity-- comprehensive urban planning has transformed Main Street into a place full of experiences and community pride.
Main Street’s revitalization began in 2011 as a four-phase $6 million project from the I-49 Frontage Road to 7th Street featuring wider sidewalks, the creation of a plaza with water features at 8th & Main, new vintage style streetlights, and decorative stamped concrete at crosswalks.
In the summer of 2024, and as part of the $21 million Building Up Grandview bond package, the City spent an additional $1 million extending these improvements from 7th Street wet to 3rd Street. The project also included an outdoor dining area outside two popular restaurants.
In addition to restaurants, the deliberate planning and redevelopment along Main Street have attracted a variety of other businesses, from local boutiques to business incubators and others, significantly boosting the local economy.
Mixed-use buildings that combine residential and commercial uses support the dynamic nature of Main Street creating a lively atmosphere engaging the community and attracting visitors.
Future plans for Main Street aim to build on these successes, like the addition of new City Market space slated to begin construction next year. This project is designed to enrich the community’s quality of life and strengthen Main Street’s role as a central gathering place.
Grandview Main Street will officially receive its "Great Street in Missouri" designation later this month at a ceremony in St. Louis.
