Progress requires growing pains, and drivers are about to experience some on Blue Ridge Boulevard in the form of a road closure.

Beginning Monday, July 6th, Blue Ridge Boulevard will be closed from Grandview Road to 3rd Street for demolition of the existing Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Railroad Bridge and construction of a new one. The road closure is expected to last about six months.

“Detours will be posted to direct drivers to Grandview Road or Cartwright Avenue/3rd Street to bypass construction,“ explained City Engineer Athena Huynh.

This second phase is the most extensive and expensive of the three phases of the $24M project. Grants and other outside funding will pay for 90% of construction.

The new railroad bridge is just one part of the many improvements expected during phase two. Other additions include a multi-use trail, new sidewalks, and widening and resurfacing of the street.

Construction is expected to take a year and a half to complete. We appreciate your patience as we work to make Blue Ridge Boulevard better for drivers, walkers, bicyclists, and the many businesses along the corridor.

Phase one from 3rd Street to Prospect was completed at the end of 2025. The third and final phase from I-49 to Grandview Road is expected to start in late 2027. The final design is still underway.
