Valarie is responsible for managing the City’s public affairs and day-to-day communications, as well
as providing marketing assistance to all City departments. Other responsibilities include:
- Managing incoming media requests for interviews, images, product information, etc.
- Writing and distributing news releases pertaining to all City departments
- Managing social media sites and content
- Develop, design and write Grandview Report, the City's quarterly newsletter
- Develop and maintain all website news and events content and support department web pages
- Write and edit various marketing and/or communications pieces for most City departments
- Direct marketing efforts for City events
- Managing livestreaming of Board of Aldermen regular sessions
Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
CITYWIDE SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
The City of Grandview Communications Department manages multiple social media accounts for city departments, including City of Grandview, Grandview Fire Department, Grandview Parks & Recreation, and Grandview Police Department, etc. on various platforms: Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Nextdoor, and TikTok. The Grandview Communications Department manages these pages as a limited public forum, and conditions do apply. To promote appropriate information exchange with the community, Grandview welcomes comments related to specific posts. Comments posted on the pages are monitored periodically, not continuously. Grandview Communications Department reserves the right to delete material prohibited by communications staff and City Attorney. We also reserve the right to block users who post materials we view as being in violation of conditions.
Examples of such materials that are prohibited include, but are not limited to the following:
●Obscene, vulgar and/or derogatory language
●Sexual content, racism, slander, hate, personal attacks and so forth
●Content that threatens, demoralizes and/or defames any person or organization or content that violates the privacy of such
●Entries that violate intellectual property rights
●Postings that endorse or oppose political candidates and/or ballot propositions
●Advertisements of any kind that promote services or products
●Promotion of illegal activity
●Third- party links
●Information which might compromise the safety and security of the public
●Comments not “topically” related to a posting, such as solicitations, promoting of other entities or conversations not concerning the post
Posting on these pages constitutes acceptance of these terms. Individuals in violation of these terms, which may cause deletion, will be notified and the content documented and deleted. Individuals in violation of these terms, which may cause a blocking, will first be warned and suspended for two weeks. Any subsequent violations will lead to a one-year blocking.
Please note: Online communications, including comments and direct messages, are not monitored 24/7. Emergencies, criminal incidents, or serious concerns needing a response must be directed to our Communications Department at (816) 316-4812 or by dialing/texting 911. A “like” on your post or comments from our agency does not constitute our approval or acceptance, but rather an acknowledgement of our review.
