LICENSING A VEHICLE FROM OUT-OF-STATE:

To obtain a Missouri title and registration (license plates) on a motor vehicle currently titled in an-other state, you must submit the following:

• An Ownership document such as:
  • Registration Certificate or proof of ownership in accordance with the laws of the previous State or Country
  • Title from the previous state or country where the vehicle was titled
    • If there is a lien on the vehicle, you must obtain the title from the lien holder to submit with your application. The lien will remain in force and appear on the face of the Missouri title.
    • Titles are mailed to the vehicle owner. If you are unable to obtain the title, please call (573) 751-4509

• Property tax receipt  or Statement of non-assessment
  • Statement of non-assessment is issued by your county (Jackson) collector's office showing you do not owe personal property taxes in the county for the previous calendar year.

• A Missouri Safety Inspection not more than 60 days old by a Missouri authorized inspection station
• Current proof of insurance

LICENSING A NEW VEHICLE

You will need everything mentioned above, except the safety inspection. If you purchase a new used car, you will need the safety inspection.  

If you registering a new vehicle, you will pay state sales tax of 4.225 percent, plus your local sales tax on the net purchase amount.

RENEWING YOUR Registered/Licensed VEHICLE

• A current insurance identification card (original or copy)
• Previous two years of you personal property tax receipts
• Renewal notice or Vehicle Title or last registration
• Missouri Safety Inspection required if:
  • vehicle older than 10 years of model year manufacture
  • more than 150,000 miles on odometer

FEES:

GRANDVIEW DMV DOES NOT PERFORM DRIVER'S LICENSE TESTING AT THIS LOCATION

Grandview DMV provides:

• State IDs

• Missouri Driver's Licenses

• REAL ID
