Engineering Services provides the City with technical expertise for managing the City’s infrastructure from concept through construction. The Engineering Services division includes the Director of Public Works, the City Engineer, Project Manager and Engineering Inspector handling both private development projects and the City’s capital projects and programs. Technical areas include:

  • transportation
  • traffic
  • stormwater
  • sanitary sewer
  • solid waste
  • construction management
  • inspections

City staff does not provide design services for private property issues but can often provide technical recommendations on how to address identified problems depending on the type and severity of the situation.

Standards for Construction 

The City of Grandview requires that improvements to infrastructure that will become publicly owned by the City such as streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and sidewalks follow the Kansas City Metropolitan Chapter of the American Public Works Association. The City may have additional requirements above those indicated by KC APWA.  Specific design concerns can be address during the site plan review process or by contacting the City Engineer at 816-316-4857.

Customer Service and Technical Assistance Customer service to the public is provided by multiple Engineering Division staff members who provide:

  • general project and program information
  • traffic safety concerns
  • streetlights
  • signal and sign requests
  • maps and plans for city infrastructure
  • public infrastructure records
  • easement and right-of-way information
  • City standards and specifications
  • basic technical information on a variety of topics including permits for
    • Driveways
    • Erosion Control
    • Right-of -Way Staff
