The neighborhood traffic calming program is a comprehensive program designed to protect and improve the quality of life of the people of Grandview through the management and control of traffic on neighborhood streets. The program is a policy framework that includes traffic calming eligibility criteria, resident request processes, and funding mechanisms. The program provides a list of vetted countermeasures for when there are speeding issues and provides a process for which situations meet the thresholds for implementing specific traffic calming measures, including any required data collection, public input, and evaluation.
Request for traffic calming may be initiated by any of the following:
• Residents or property owner/neighborhood associations may ask for traffic calming by submitting a work request to the Public Works Department.
• The Police Department, schools, or other similar service agencies may request traffic calming to solve a specific concern with respect to traffic safety.
• City of Grandview staff, who determine through routine data collection that a need for traffic calming may exist, may request that a specific location or area be considered.
The request should identify the location of the perceived problem, a detailed description of the issue (i.e. excessive traffic speed, time of day the problem occurs, etc.), and an indication of the cause of concern (e.g. excessive speeds, cut-through traffic, insufficient traffic control, etc.).
