Appointed Alderwoman, Ward 1 in April 2024
Current Term Expires April 2027

Alderwoman Sandra Champion Jones has resided in Grandview since 2006.  She has two sons, one of whom graduated from Grandview High School in 2017.

After three decades in public service, Sandra retired from her role as a senior supervisory analyst and program manager in the federal government at the Department of Treasury, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) .  During that period, she was elected to three consecutive terms as President of the local chapter of the National Treasury Employees Union.  Sandra was well-known for her astute ability to accomplish the mission and care for the people.  She holds a Master of Science in Executive Leadership from Champlain College (2020), and a Bachelor of Public Administration Public Service from Park University (2017).  In October 2022, Sandra founded Pinnacle Leadership Solutions, LLC (PLS), a certified Small Business Administration Woman Owned Small Business (SBA WOSB), where she coaches leadership skills, team management, and workforce development.

Alderwoman Jones became intentional about being of service to her community when she accepted an invitation to serve as Secretary for the Grandview Arts Council (GAC) Board of Directors (BOD) in August 2022.  Sandra was instrumental in engaging the GAC BOD to complete the UMKC Center for Neighborhood’s Leadership Development training from March – May 2023, which aligned with the City’s 2030 long-term community engagement plan and helped strengthen overall leadership within the organization.  The Grandview leaders were the first organization outside of KCMO to successfully complete the course.

Her strong interpersonal skills and empathy for the frequent and complex challenges associated with public service, problem solving, and people-focused, transformative leadership abilities are Alderwoman Jones’ unique talents. She believes in compassionate leadership that values multiple perspectives and that collaborates in order to achieve goals; and she is committed to continuing to increase neighborhood involvement.
