- A site plan is a scaled plan of the lot with all improvements shown on the plan. Within 15 working days, either a site plan approval or re-submittal comments will be generated. After a site plan is approved with the city, and a building permit has been reviewed and approved, then the project can proceed.
- Zoning regulates how land is used, where a structure may be located on a lot, and how tall and large that structure can be. It also regulates other elements of site development, such as accessory structures, temporary uses, parking, landscaping, and signs.
1) Three copies of a stake-out survey prepared by a licensed architect, engineer, or land surveyor are required. See site plan Standards below for specific requirements.
2) One set of building plans must be submitted. These plans must include the floor plans with all dimensions, wall sections, elevations, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, structural member materials (ceiling and floor joists, beams, and roof rafters) to include spacing, spans, sizes, grade, and species of lumber to be used.
3) A building permit application must be filled out and submitted with the stake-out survey and building plans mentioned above.
- Signs are not permitted to be placed in any public right-of-way. This includes the "common area" between the street and sidewalk and in street medians. Typically, right-of-way extends 11' inward from the curb
- Yes. A fine of up to $500 can be assessed for each violation. Each day the violation continues may be considered a separate violation.
- Residential solid waste stored outside a building should be placed in containers (90 gallons or less) specifically designed and made for trash storage and collection. The containers must be leak-proof and waterproof, and must be kept closed at all times. Yard wastes, however, shall be exempted from this requirement and may be stored outside in an approved container for a period not to exceed seven (7) days.
- Yes. Solid waste collectors may make available to their customers the option of trash pickup at or immediately behind the front line of your house.
- In addition to the principal yard or lawn areas, you are responsible for mowing any areas between your property and the paved area of all adjacent streets including ditches, easements, alleys and unpaved rights-of-way.
- A violation exists when weeds or grasses are more than six (6) inches in height on platted tracts of land with lots less than two (2) acres in area or twelve (12) inches on unplatted land. A violation also exists if there is any vegetation which is poisonous to the touch, such as poison ivy, poison oak or poison sumac.
- Grandview allows two of these items to be stored in either the side yard or the rear yard in residential districts. However, it must be located behind the front of the residence (in other words, not in the front yard) and in the case of a corner lot, cannot be located in the side yard adjacent to a street.

- Building permits are required for any new roof covered structure over 30 square feet of floor area in size. For example, permits are required for the addition of sheds, garages or carports, patio and decks with or without covers, porches, room additions and basement finish projects. In addition, a building permit is also required for swimming pools and some hot tubs. Building permits are also required for commercial or industrial construction, remodeling, and additions. For residential driveways, see the Public Works Department to determine if a public improvements permit is required.
- No, the City does not provide any notary service.
- According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, nearly 2 million crashes annually occur in intersections. In 2007, red-light running resulted in almost 900 fatalities and 153,000 injuries.
Red-light running is a problem. It is believed that an automated red-light camera program will reduce the number of red-light collisions and injuries associated with these crashes. The purpose of this program is to increase traffic safety in the City of Grandview. - No. The City of Grandview HR staff reviews all applicants' resume and cover letter electronic submissions and if you are selected for an interview, you will be asked to fill out an application in person before your interview. If you decide to apply for a position in person at City Hall you will also be asked to fill out the job application form then.

- Any State license office can provide copies of your driving record. The fees are: $5.88 for the driving record document and $2.00 office fee. Only the requester is allowed to receive his\her driving record with proper identification.
Avoid long lines at the License Bureau by being prepared and not waiting until the end of the month to renew your tags, or by handling the process by mail according to the directions on your renewal form.
Make sure you have the following items with you before standing in line:
• A renewal form, title or registration from the immediate preceding year
• A vehicle safety inspection less than 60 days old, unless this is the first annual renewal of a new motor vehicle.
• A personal property tax receipt or tax clearance from the county in which you resided on January 1 of the previous year.
• If you have not paid your personal property tax yet or have lost your receipt, you can take care of that at the City and County Collections Office Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM in Grandview City Hall.

The license bureau accepts cash and pre-printed checks (checks that have your name on them) only. Otherwise, all questions concerning taxes must be directed to the Jackson County Tax Division at (816) 881-3232. - To receive a Disabled Placard, you will need State Form DOR1776, which is available at Grandview City Hall. This form will need to be signed by your doctor, specifying your name and whether the disability is temporary or permanent. Bring the completed form back to the License Bureau. A Disabled Placard costs $2.00 and is renewable every September.
- Good question! Before standing in a long line at Grandview City Hall, it is best to ask to make sure you are in the proper place and have the necessary information. Any City employee would be glad to assist you!
Currently, there is not a facility in Grandview where you can take the tests to receive your Missouri Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License. One of the closest sites is the Missouri Highway Patrol in Lee's Summit.

- The simplest way is to look at the citation for this information. If you are still unsure, you may call either the Grandview Municipal Court Clerk’s Office at (816) 316-4837 or the Jackson County Circuit Court at (816) 881-3934.
- The first step is to file a report with the Grandview Police Department. Following any necessary investigation, the police and prosecutor will determine what charges, if any, should be filed and take the appropriate action regarding your complaint.
- A subpoena is a court order that requires you to appear in court on a specified date and time, usually because you are a victim or witness in a case. Failure to comply with the subpoena may result in the judge holding you in contempt an issuing a warrant for your arrest.
- Yes. You have the right to hire an attorney and have him/her speak for you in Court. If jail is the possible punishment, you may request a court appointed attorney. If you are financially eligible, an attorney will be appointed to represent you.
- You should call (816) 316-4837 and request an appointment with a prosecutor. You should be aware, however, that the decision as to whether to “drop the charges” resides solely with the prosecutor, who will consider such factors as the defendant’s criminal history, the risk to other citizens, possible witness intimidation and applicable laws.
- If you need to change the court date, you may contact the office of the Municipal Court at (816) 316-4837. It is within the Court’s discretion to grant one continuance from the Court date. If you need to change your trial date, you are required to personally appear before the Judge to request a continuance.
- A warrant may be issued for your arrest. If a warrant is issued, you will be required to post bond or be taken to jail and required to remain in jail until the earliest court date. An additional fee will be charged for failing to appear.
I disagree with the municipal judge’s finding in my case. Can I have another judge and/or a jury hear the case?
Only those individuals that have been convicted after a trial, can Appeal (Trial D’Novo) their case to the Jackson County Circuit Court. A new judge will hear the case without reference to any previous findings The Municipal Judge must first set an appeal bond, which must be posted along with a filing fee of $30.00 made payable to the Jackson County Circuit Court.
Appeals must be filed within 10 days of sentencing in the Municipal Court, you will need to complete the appropriate paperwork, post the required appeal bond, and pay a $30.00 filing fee all made payable to the Jackson Circuit Court at the Grandview Municipal Court Clerk’s Office in order to perfect your appeal. You will be given a court date and time to appear at Jackson County for your appeal date.
Request for a jury may be made to the Municipal Court and the request will be forwarded to the Circuit Court for processing as authorized by statute.
- Most tickets may be paid without appearing in Court. You must, however, pay the ticket before your court date. If the ticket is not paid before your court date and you do not appear in court, a warrant for your arrest may be issued.

- The Police Department offers fingerprinting on Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fingerprinting costs $5.00 per resident only. No appointment is necessary, but you are required to bring the fingerprint cards that will be used, and you must be prepared to wait, as arrested persons may be processing.

If anyone has a complaint concerning an officer's actions, he/she is encouraged to speak with a Department representative about the incident. He/she may also obtain a complaint form in the lobby of the police department, or one may be downloaded from this website and submitted by mail. No one should feel that any sort of retaliation will come as a result of complaint. The department will diligently investigate the complaint and implement corrective measures if they are warranted.
- Police call takers are trained to get as much information as possible in order to determine the nature of the problem and its seriousness. For your information, while the police call taker is trying to obtain the necessary information, in most instances, they have already dispatched police vehicles to the scene. The information you provide will further assist towards your safety and that of the police officers.

- You can report traffic-related problems in your neighborhood by calling 816-316-4980. Please provide information to the Call Taker about the location and nature of the problem, when it occurs, and whether you would like to have an Officer call you back. The problem will be forwarded to the appropriate unit for response and action (Police Traffic Unit or City Public Works).
- Call the Police Department non-emergency number at 816-316-4980, and advise the call taker of the location and description of the vehicle. An Officer will check the vehicle to determine whether or not it can be legally on the street. If it is not legal, it will be tagged as an abandoned motor vehicle and scheduled for removal within 48 hours of being tagged.

- The City of Grandview Police department does not take reports over the phone. We feel that it is important that an Officer respond to your home or business and talk with you directly while taking a report. However, for minor incidents, we encourage you to fill out an online police report at www.grandview.org/policereport. In certain circumstances, you may be advised to come to the police station to file a walk-in report.
- You should pay the ticket by mail or in person to the office of the Municipal Court. The reverse side of the ticket will have information regarding payment. Certain charges will require a court appearance, which will be noted on the ticket.
- If you received a traffic ticket and you feel that it was issued in error, then we encourage you to set up a hearing before a judge. To do this, do not pay the traffic ticket, but appear in court on the date and time set on the ticket.
- It is the policy of the Department to enforce all of the laws of the State of Missouri, and by doing such; the Department is committed to effective traffic enforcement to reduce accidents, apprehend drunk drivers and to ensure a high degree of safety on the highways and streets of Grandview.
- Yes, the Police Department depends on citizens calling to report crimes or suspicious activity. The police person who takes your call will ask questions about the suspicious activity to determine its nature and ask for descriptions of the people involved. You may be asked if an officer or detective may contact you. Please call 816-316-4980 to report suspicious activity. You may also use the on-line form.
What can I do about barking dogs in my neighborhood? How can I report animals running loose in my neighborhood?
To report incidents involving animals call 816-316-4817. If an animal appears to be a threat to the safety of an individual, call 911.- While the noise is occurring, call the Police Department non-emergency number 816-316-4980.
- State and Federal regulations prohibit officers from using the computer to retrieve information not related to investigative purposes, and the information can only be shared with law enforcement entities.
I saw an officer "bust" an intersection with his lights and siren only to turn them off when he/she got down the road. What was he doing?
Sometimes an officer responding to an emergency call is cancelled and this is why he/she may appear to be using his/her lights to get through an intersection.- Officers generally do not actively get involved in civil disputes as they are not empowered by state statute to do so. These incidents are best dealt with by contacting an attorney or the courthouse. However, do not hesitate to call for an officer in any situation, as he/she will recommend some options available to you.
- Officers are trained to utilize lighting techniques to illuminate a vehicle for the safety of themselves and the occupants of the vehicle, and it is not meant to be something that is annoying or a form of harassment.
- The department policies are specific about an officer's driving habits, and forbids any violation of speed that is not related to police duties. Officers are allowed, as set by statute and department policy, to exceed at times, the speed limit only as it relates directly to a police call.

Any revenues from a recreational marijuana tax would go into the city's General Fund. This fund allows the City the flexibility to put the money into city services needed most as they can change from year to year.
In November 2022, Missouri voters passed a constitutional amendment allowing the sale and use of marijuana for personal use for those ages 21 and over.
The state is currently charging a 6% tax on legal purchases of recreational marijuana. Cities and counties have the option to charge a sales tax of up to 3% on recreational marijuana with voter approval. If approved, recreational marijuana sold in Grandview would be charged a 3% city sales tax.

Only people purchasing recreational marijuana in Grandview at a state-licensed store would pay the 3% city sales tax.
