The Traffic Unit is a dedicated unit responsible for the enforcement of Grandview and Missouri traffic laws. Traffic enforcement is necessary to reduce the number of serious injury and deadly accidents, as well as reduce the amount of property damage caused by motor vehicle crashes. This enforcement ultimately results in a safer traveling environment in the City of Grandview.
The Traffic Unit is trained extensively in motor vehicle accident investigation andaccident reconstruction. The Unit investigates all hit and run motor vehicle accidents, and responds to serious injury and fatality accidents.
The Traffic Unit also:
- conducts DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols
- enforces safety belt laws
- is an active member of the Jackson County Traffic Safety Task Force
- assists in metro-area initiatives addressing aggressive and/or impaired driving
- assist in parades
- dignitaries/funeral escorts
- conduct traffic safety presentations
Traffic officers drive Police Ford Interceptor SUV's and two motorcycle officers ride the Harley-Davidson Road King Police motorcycles.
The Motorcycle Unit is capable of diverse assignments and is beneficial in its ability to easily access traffic crash scenes on congested roadways. The motorcycle Unit is capable of providing a rapid response in assessing the damage and arranging for necessary emergency medical services. This quick response allows motorcycle officers to begin a preliminary crash investigation and determine what resources will be needed to restore the normal flow of traffic.
